About long dog yarn
Hi! I'm Brandy, the indie dyer behind Long Dog Yarn. Currently, I live in Southern California with my husband and our wire-haired dachshund, Rufus.
The knitting bug bit me good one cool October day several years ago and since then my passion for knitting and yarn has been going strong. Knitting and dyeing became a creative outlet for me as I worked on completing my Ph.D. in animal physiology, and often helped me cope with the stressful situations an advance degree can heap onto you. After dipping my toes into the idea of dying yarn for my own knitwear designs, I took the officially plunge of starting my own line of hand-dyed yarns in May 2016 after buying a dyeing kit at a local fiber festival.
The idea for Long Dog Yarn and the official "weenie dog" logo was dreamed up one night as I was drifting off to sleep. I loved the idea of having a long dog that wrapped all the way around the yarn label and the next morning immediately go to work sketching up my idea. I have always had a strong affinity for "long dogs" (aka dachshunds), having grown up with them since I was in diapers. Each one has been an adventure and provided me with life-long friendship (and more than a few sloppy kisses). Now, I have my very own "long dog", Rufus, who is serving as the current Long Dog Yarn official mascot. He may only see in grey-scale, but he assures me each of my colors is his favorite. No matter where this new yarn adventure takes me, I know he'll be there by my side.
